The Story Behind the Spinning Necklace on ITV’s Playing Nice

Some moments in life take you completely by surprise, filling you with a mix of pride and gratitude that’s hard to put into words. Seeing my spinning necklace featured on ITV’s Playing Nice was one of those magical moments.

Let me take you behind the scenes of this design - its journey from my workshop to the screen - and why it holds such a special place in my heart.

A Design Born from Curiosity and Playfulness

The spinning necklace first came to life during my Silver Diploma in February 2021. It began as a creative challenge where I experimented with new techniques like cold connections and rivet-making. I wanted the design to be tactile and interactive, something you could spin and hold - a playful, wearable work of art.

The choice of a Swarovski blue topaz gemstone was no coincidence. Its vibrant ocean-blue hue reminded me of the sea and tied the entire design together. Although Swarovski stones are no longer available, I’m thrilled to now offer customisations with Swiss or London blue topaz - or any gemstone you love -making each piece as unique as its wearer.

From Vision to Reality

This necklace was one of those rare creations that turned out exactly as I’d pictured it. Sometimes my designs evolve as I create, but with this piece, everything just fell into place. Its spinning element added a playful touch, while the gemstone brought the calm and beauty of the ocean to life.

Creating it was pure joy - a feeling I hope to share with everyone who wears it.

A Surprising Opportunity

In October 2023, a member of the Playing Nice production team reached out, looking for authentic sea glass jewellery to reflect the show’s coastal setting. Among the pieces I provided was the spinning necklace.

To my delight, actress Niamh Algar selected it herself. Little did I know how significant it would become in the series. Its tactile design wasn’t just a beautiful accessory—it also became a meaningful prop, offering her character comfort in challenging moments.

A Moment of Pure Magic

When Playing Nice premiered, I turned on the TV, not expecting much. But there it was -my spinning necklace, right in the opening scene! Seeing it on screen was surreal and brought an overwhelming sense of pride and disbelief.

The moment became even more magical when I reached out to thank Niamh Algar. She responded with the kindest message, calling the necklace a “scene-stealer” and sharing how much it meant to her character. Her words brought me to tears - happy ones, of course!

Why This Necklace Means So Much

This spinning necklace represents everything I love about jewellery design - creativity, passion, and a connection to the natural world. Inspired by the ocean’s colours and textures, it’s a piece that’s bold yet delicate, playful yet deeply meaningful.

Now, I’m bringing this design back as a made-to-order piece, customizable to reflect your unique style. Whether in silver or gold, paired with a vibrant gemstone or a minimalist finish, this necklace can tell your story.

A Heartfelt Thank You

Moments like these remind me why I do what I do. To my incredible community—thank you for supporting my journey and sharing your love for handmade jewellery. Seeing my work on screen was a milestone I never imagined, and it wouldn’t have been possible without you.
